No BPA fillings during pregnancy!
New research review:
WARNING:
Do not use dental fillings with bisphenol A in pregnant women!
Today, Swedish newspaper Ny Teknik warns pregnant women of having bisfenol-A plastic dental fillings (s.c. composites) inserted, since the BPA levels in saliva are, according to researchers, elevated during and after insertion and it is unknown how the foetus is affected! Bisphenol A-containing dental fillings should therefore not be used in pregnant women.
The research review was made by researchers at the Karolinska Institute at request of Swedish authorities, and toxicologist Annika Hanberg is interviewed in the article. All the major Swedish media have reported the story. nyteknik.se/bioteknik/medicin/article
Quick translation of part of the rest of the article:
”Several studies have shown that the levels of bisphenol A in saliva increase upto three hours after a bisphenol-based filling has been inserted. Previously it has been thought that exposure to bisphenol A from dental fillings does not considerably contribute to the total bisphenol exposure in humans, but a literature review shows that the results of saliva studies point in different directions.
Five times higher levels..
One study shows upto five times higher bisphenol A-levels in urine during the first hour after insertion. After 24 hours the levels diminished but did not completely return to the previous level.”
Professor Annika Hanberg also mentions that there are windows of development during which the foetus is more susceptible and since we do not know the consequences of the exposure, dental fillings with bisfenol A should not to be used in pregnant women.
(I might translate the rest tomorrow…)
